The entire human race is at a standstill today as we battle COVID-19. We fight with the shocking numbness that we are not ready for this. Despite the tremendous leaps in technology, science and mathematics, our infrastructures and utilities are ill-equipped to handle a pandemic of this nature.

Over the years, the world has experienced pandemics like SARS, Smallpox, H1N1 and HIV. We have fought and contained these pandemics, each one more lethal than the last. If we are truthful, Covid-19 is one pandemic amongst others to come. What is your opinion – Will we be ready for the next one?

One of the things that influenced the spread and tracking of Covid-19 is technology.  Without technology, the containment of COVID would have been almost unmanageable, and the death toll would have been higher. While some people still think technology is moving too fast, the truth is we are not doing enough. We need cutting-edge innovations and applications, and we need it quickly. In a time of crisis, the ability to act fast and effectively could be the difference between life and death.

The world post-pandemic

Everyone is looking forward to the end of this pandemic when we go about our lives like before. But the world, as we know, it has changed drastically. The epidemic is a catalyst to significant changes in business, the economy and technology. Resourcefulness, scalability, agility and speed will be the watchword for the new era of marketing and living.

With more than half the population forced to conduct businesses and work from home, dependent heavily on technology, we are seeing a significant shift from a traditional or mixed (conventional and digital)  mode of working to a more digital-driven platform. The vast demands and pressures placed on technology to keep things running have also quickened the priority for no-code solutions.

 What is no code development?

No code development software is a platform that allows users to create and launch complex applications without writing a single line of code. To use these platforms, no prior knowledge of coding is required.

New York, just like China had to move quickly to combat the COVID crises and one way they did that was to create a crises-management software platform in a matter of days and without writing a line of computer code. This online portal allowed the city to go live in hours, mapping the virus, using no more than drag-and-drop tools with Uncork software.

The future of coding is no code, and the competition is intense as big companies like Google and Microsoft are buying into the promise that no system holds. It is possible to create applications without writing a single line of code.

“No-code allows those people who don’t know how to write code to develop the same applications that a software engineer would.

No code development is a reality. It is working, and it has experienced a surge.  The world consumes technology faster than it created. Traditional coding is costlier, takes more time and resources and has to go through a lot of people. With no code as the future, all of these changes as cutting edge innovations will be built and shipped to the market faster.

The world will experience a lot of changes post-pandemic; we do not have time to waste.  No code development is a solution to a demand and supply problem. There is a massive rise in the demand for software which is limited by the number of developers available to create this software.

No code platforms use a visual progression where users can drag and drop pre-built modules and add components for functionality. The learning time is shorter. It provides better agility as less time spent on app development and cost drastically reduced.

Building business innovations and applications to facilitate the processes of business operations is the most effective way we can face post-pandemic challenges.

But how much of this can developers handle? One of the essential advantages of the no-code platform is the capability to altogether bypass developers, whereby allowing people who understand the business solutions themselves build the applications. It removes the communication gap between developer and client and gives the client complete ownership of the look, feel and functionality of the use.

No code application packs a lot of advantages. It increases productivity. What used to take months and weeks can be done in a couple of days. Logical and visual changes can make faster and without the need to get in touch with a developer. Applications can also be easily maintained.

Is it possible to build applications without writing code?

Programming without code isn’t a new concept. WordPress, which houses over 34% of websites on the web uses a low-code approach. It is entirely possible to build a web app with it without writing a single code. Dreamweaver is a CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) tool software that had drag and drop features for web development, and it has been around since 1997. Newer no-code platforms like AppSheet and PowerApp encourages the creation of more sophisticated apps other than websites, including mobile apps.

No code approaches are not just for small businesses. “Many of these tools are now AI-enabled, leveraging “enterprise-scale API and web service catalogues (both internal and external), open data sets, and tested and proven template galleries,” – zdnet.com. With the resources that the no-code platform provides, large enterprises can develop complex applications without tremendous coding efforts and skill.

While no-code development platforms aren’t going to take over traditional coding anytime soon, it balances the future of rapid application development and gives everyone a chance to create software.  Not knowing how to code shouldn’t stop a person from launching their idea and building their business their way.
